break stuff THANKSGIVING
Caves Days Moments
( Marriage Recs ) 2005

"Our days are like leaves in Fall / and soon your soul, like branches of bones, will not be hidden by the moments of your life (cough)"

The cover of Thanksgiving's newest treasure, Caves Days Moments, depicts the view from inside such cave - revealing a new (or setting) day and the moment in which we see the sun, barcode intact, either revealing herself or returning to another side of the earth. A jet black Arigato Pak! elsewhere, simply this watercolor on the front & center - an original by Mister T. himself, Adrian Orange.

Twelve new recordings on the space age elliptical mirror that awaits us inside the cave, and one dozen more stories to add to the Thanksgiving collectors collection. [And, once inside the cave, there is a full-watercolored poster that awaits you as well.] With titles such as "days of hiding", "leave me alone" and "we'll die" - you'd thing Mister Orange was looking to be left to wither. . I'd argue such isn't such case. Take a look at the past year / year and a half for Thanksgiving, it's been quite busy: touring, new albums and ep's, living the life - he's been a motivated puppy. It'd be something to say of these recordings weren't keepers, but for some unknown alignment of the stars and sister moons - Adrian makes music that is to be loved to.. . music that masses should stop in their daily efforts to appreciate and learn, so that we may continue to be kind for future moments that unveil themselves.

Center track "Days" is a brief, almost Hawaiian instrumentation, acoustic poem that reflects simply on the title topic - while "(fleeting) moments" incorporates a small temper of percussion (this could be on congas or a trapper keeper - your call) and hints at 21st century topics with lines like "Like the kids with laptops, remembering where'st they are / whil'st plugging into firewire, or searching for wildfire". This track alone could be about the local coffee shops of Portland, technology in general or neither of the two - that's what is to adore about Thanksgiving and his music: the understanding that nothing really needs explanation, only care and attention.. . like a greenhouse. But try to pay Caves the attention she deserves, like when Adrian blows out the virtual candle at the end of "(flickering) candles", or the stark, beat-heavy rhythms that drive compositions like "(you belong to the) blood" and "caves". Thanksgiving is for the children.. . Thanksgiving is everyone. Little Baby Thanksgiving!

Caves Days Moments is, again, kindness to absolute perfection - all others need to either take note or retire entirely. Thanks.
