The Vulturines
Fowl Language
( Gypsy
Basilica ) 2006
Portland, Oregon's The Vulturines first full-length
album. Twelve songs, five of which were on their debut
ep.
Perfectly crafted songs using a mixture of way too many influences with
one of the best singers ever is what the Vulturines music is. Jennifer
Saez's voice sounds like she is almost too shy to sing maybe, it's so
innocent and sounds so natural, just very genuine and unforced in a
way.
Every song is perfect. The first song"Desert" is maybe my
favorite at the moment. It has an almost sad, dreary feel with the instruments
at the beginning and throughout the song, but especially in the beginning.
The song sounds like it was written on a nice cold, cloudy day and almost
ready to rain perhaps. Maybe all of their songs have that feel and should
be listened to on a cloudy, autumn day.
There are a few instrumental songs with the exception of the "One,
two, three!" that starts off "Proctoltergeist"
which is a word they made up I suppose because google's never heard
of it other than it being the name of a song on this album. The instrumentals
are good even though you're kind of wishing that there would be some
singing because they are such nice singers.
The last song is "Elise Marie" and it's sung by - I think
- Corbin Supak. It sounds like a bit of a departure from the other songs
just because Jennifer isn't singing but it's a really good song too
and a perfect closer for Fowl Language.
Now we just need to get them to play shows outside of Portland - everyone
should be able to get the chance to see them because they have
to be good live.
