The Mathletes[!]
Fort Awesome
[ Asaurus
] 2006
There is much to be said for a group fronted by a young man who had
his surname changed [legally] to fit that of his bands title: Joe
Mathlete. Yes, there is much to be said - I will simply touch
on the subject. Just place one moist fingertip on the grandeur of what
I have here...
Fort Awesome - once you catch your breath in acceptance of
the album's title and cover mascots [hello yellow duck, orange kitten
and Robot McGee] - reveals herself as a precious long player steeped
in energetic bounce. With a cared for mixture of pop, glee and childlike
wonder [see: "Grownupland"] - Fort Awesome reads
like the mind of a home-schooled child [approximate age: 7] who won
a week's worth of watching the Discovery channel after finishing
their science project early.
"ASTEROID!!!" is positive fact, the [similar] telling of a
400-meter chunk of Space [tagged 2004
MN4] that is scheduled to intersect the orbit [or "flyby"]
of our Earth's stratosphere in 2029. If we're all gonna die [remember
Night of the Comet - get yourself to a theatre or lose yr brains
to the walking dead... NOW!], we may as well have fun
while we're here. The Mathletes have come to inform and caress us -
take their hands or be crushed by darkening skies and molten rain!
Fort
Awesome = Fun, Asaurus = Radass. "The circus has exploded"
and rocks of solid iron are headed for Planet "us" - we must
celebrate!
