Music that awakens lived history stored deep in the mind is cared
for very much by this listener. Compositions that allow her instruments
to speak clearer than any clever lyric ever could. This is the music
of Belgium's Tomàn.
This eight chapter LP, bearing a title in reference to salmon,
is the successor to Tomàn's catching a grizzly bear,
lesson one that was "released" last year. Additionally,
the only thing fishy about these four men and their albums are the
album titles themselves. Tomàn display and capture a delicate
recipe of what some may tag "post-rock", allowing songs
to build upwards and sonically swelling [hear: "Losgehen"]
- imagine a wedding cake of the most supreme detail balanced top-side
down.
Vocals sparse, samples few and far [see: "They Storm In (No
Knock)"] - Tomàn present themselves in a feathery state
of glorious fusion very few bands can even say they have dreamt
of. Intelligent listeners of [the greatly under
heard] Lincoln
(Narwahl Records) and/or Come on Die Young-era Mogwai will
find audible harmony in seeking out Perhaps
we should have smoked the salmon first.
"I Can't Remember Whether I Said Thank
You"... hey Graveface, thanks [again]. Go fish.
