Yip-Yip
In The Reptile House
[ S.A.F.
Records ] 2006
Yip-Yip
is electronic music but with so much quirkiness. I am not too familiar
with electronic/techno music and I don’t know all the genres of
it and stuff so I’m not sure how informative this review can be
to many who are really into electronic music, hopefully it’s helpful.
Yip-Yip
is Brian Esser and Jason Temple from Winter Park, Florida and they started
the band in 2001. The title of the album refers to the place they recorded
the album. Inside the cd is a picture of a huge building that says the
Reptile House on it, so that is definitely where it was recorded,
haha. The building looks like where the Superfriends™
hang out at when they are not fighting villains.
There
are no vocals in the songs except for a really small part on “Birth
Herd” that is a bit inaudible and sounds a little like a queezy
Yoda maybe. The songs just have all kinds of interesting sounds and
beats, at times really good loopy beats and is really fast-paced to
slowed down parts in other areas.
There
are sixteen tracks on the album with titles such as “Slime Shuns
Sun Shine,” “Double Dolphin,” and “Candy Dinner.”
I think their song titles are just too funny and nice.
They
seem to be a really busy band. They have a ton of stuff out already,
do all their artwork, and are even contributing to an indie rock cookbook
being put out by Soft Skull
Press at some point, along with all the touring they do.
Naoko.
