"Did all your true things begin to seem so false? And then
you pack it up and go away - and I pray you don't get lost [and
I pray you don't get lost] " - 'Maker Make'
Now
this is just what
I needed on an icy January morning in the sticks of Virginia.
As the people of the internet are splitting opinions on the latest
Shins album [yay, says I] and attempting to be the first cool
kitten with the new Modest Mouse "leak" - I couldn't
be happier just knowing that Portland, Oregon's The
Shaky Hands have introduced themselves to me. Thirteen
action-packed tracks that face sctas-approved bands like the Donkeys
& Papercuts [in vocals and melodies] all while backing a confident
[and possible] passion for 'bands of old' like the Lilys, circa-Eccsame
[hear the remarkably fuzzed-thru combustion
of "Hold It Up", multiple times].
Fuckin'ell,
man - this is a solid album that has me quite perked
about the outlook on this year in music [a view that had no
hope 3 weeks prior]. Thank you, you Shaky Hands -- keep it steady,
I s'pose. New tally: Portland: 74+, remainder
of the Nation: 3. I realize that I cannot force
you - the reader/listener - to carry out my well-wishes of this
music getting into your two ears, but know that if
I could - I would [industrial] tape speakers filled with these
Steady Hands to your intelligent head. Carry on.
