I was off from work for a week, and I decided to spend one morning seeking out the truths of Flight 77. That said - you seem to be a man who can get things done: nearly six years past, what happened on September 11, 2001?

Well, there are many people writing about this stuff a lot more eloquently http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timeline.jsp?timeline=complete_911_timeline&day_of_9/11=aa77 and informed http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/postelection.html than me. To be honest - I'm not sure what happened, sometimes, after obsessing on this stuff for days on end, I'm comforted by the idea that one day in the future these events will have the quaint and fictionally tragic air of the Peloponnesian War, or the reign of Charles the III.

Follow up from the past interview {...would you ever consider scoring / creating a soundtrack for a film?}   ANYTHING??

Ha!! Man I am very wary of stepping out of my little field of knowledge. I think it would be a serious challenge to score a movie. Jon Brion's work shows you how necessary and important a soundtrack can be. The Punch-Drunk Love record is AMAZING! Also Jonny Greenwood's Bodysong is fantastic.I would love to score something of the Dardenne Brothers, or Michael Hanke. Now that would be interesting.

Emerald City is the first release that has you / your face pictured [I take it that is you on 'Life and Death'] - any specific reason for the c over photo? Could this album have been the s/t release? [you look great, by thee way - think P.S. Hoffman's character in Boogie Nights...]

Actually that's my friend Logan Hedin on the cover of Fourtracker !! He has the same bad posture as me. It could've been the first s/t release, but I noticed that people always make fun of you if it's not the first record. Like it's a BIG STATEMENT.

Also - I've read the album title doesn't have any relation to Dorothy & Oz.. this legit information?

Yes, it is legit! The title refers to the green zone in Baghdad. but when i'm in Seattle, I'll say it refers to them. Same in Sydney.

Side note: Scott Solter remixes Pixel Revolt in Analog.  To put it straight, that's some serious re-working.  I know you [as well as all of us] are a fan [and, you, a close friend] of Scott - any idea how the man does what he does? [you are MORE than welcome to kick my ass and skip this one].

Well, Scott is a genius. Seriously the best engineer I've ever been around. Restless, ambitious, violent, very very creative. And rigorous. He will try to solve an aesthetic problem when he's working. It's actually pretty amazing to watch him work.

You recently gave some time to Merlin [great interview!], and I could not help but take note of your comments on finances and the current state of music.  You seem to have a good backup plan [engineer, studio owner] - yet it's all related to the end source of music.  Are you freaked out a bit by the narrowing road of physical media [versus digital / MP3]?

No, I think it's amazing. The whole creative world is in transition That is BEAUTIFUL! No one knows what the next three years is going to look like. I have NO idea, and I think about this stuff every day. I'm not really worried about the monetary part of art. It's NEVER been profitable. It could be 1623 or 1987 - it's ALWAYS been subsidized. So I guess I'm confident that if I do good work, I'll get some money for it. I just blow it anyway, you know...

"hey - it's me again!" {exhale...breathe!}

Hey!  Yr a fan of Aqua Teen Hunger Force - how about Handbanana [episode 60]!!?

Frylock: Oh, I see; you're supposed to add DNA.
Meatwad: What's D N A?
Carl: It means uh "Do Not Enter my Pool, Assman". [> listen!]

Ha! I've spent many hours on the back bench of the van watching this show.

Fan [me, nerdy] stuff: what music are you currently *loving*?  And one "what if?" - what if Neutral Milk Hotel [Mass Occult tour 2008] reunited for a 2-week tour...?

Things i like right now: Hello Central (a very good band from LA), the new Minus Story (John Congleton is a serious genius), Deerhunter Fluorescent Grey EP, Goodbye Again, with Ingrid Bergman and Yves Montand, The Gun Club and Scary Movie 3 (I'm not kidding). I hope Neutral Milk doesn't reunite!! There is something very sacred and hopeful about how he {Jeff Magnum} dropped out.

[question?]: Ron Paul in 2008?

Hey - he voted against the Homeland Security Act and the Iraq war resolution. And read this. http://www.house.gov/paul/congrec/congrec2002/cr091002.htm. Man this guy is fascinating!!

Much love to you kaleb!!!!!! xoxoxxoxoxox jv
